Cintiq 16 Pro (2021) Shoelace artifacts?

Postby pomdri » Wed 11. May 2022, 23:54

In Brad Colbow review of the new Cintiq 16 Pro. He shows that the tablet is giving him some shoelace artifacts, you can see it here at the timestamped location:

Can anybody with this tablet confirm if this was a temporary issue of some kind and it's already fixed through drivers or something?

Thanks!

I'm not sure why Brad doesn't mention it but this is not related with the Cintiq 16 Pro itself of the Wacom Drivers for that matter.
This "shoelace" effect has been around for a while and it happens in some 3rd party apps and not others with any Wacom device. See some examples below:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-shoelace-shaped-brush-stroke-with-wacom-and-smoothing-on-macos/idc-p/11244059#M55365

This is most commonly seen with PS but other app may also show this. It depends on how they handle pressure.

Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with the issue and I understand it has to do with software most of the times, but not always. It generally seems Brad Colbow is a decent reviewer and he understands these these things.

Can somebody who has the 16 pro 2021 still confirm that you don't get that?

Yes, Brad seems to have considerable experience with these devices which is why I was surprised about how this "shoelace" effect is mentioned. Makes it sound like it is unique to the Cintiq Pro 16 (2021) which is obviously not.
This effect really is 100% software related since it doesn't occur with every app and also happens with other brands. Here is another example: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClipStudio/comments/ktlhbi/shoelace_bug_on_brushes_in_csp_but_not_in_other/

I understand it happens with other brands. What I was asking is: can anybody confirm that it doesn't happen with the Cintiq Pro 16 2021?
Obviously it happens under a variety of circumnstances.

The fact that in Brad Colbow's review of the Cintiq Pro 24, Cintiq 22 or Cintiq 16 he doesn't get the shoelace artifacts, but he gets them in the Cintiq Pro 16 2021 points to a specific shoelace issue in the Cintiq Pro 16 2021, can anybody confirm that this is not the case?
